14th March- Anuradhapura to Kandy via Sigiriya

We headed out to Kandy early the following morning and made a stop at Sigiriya on the way. Sigiriya is the famous rock formation famed by many travel photos of Sri Lanka and if anything is that emblematic, than it's surely worth a visit. The hotel staff at Anuradhapura said that we would need 3 hours in total to climb but my cocky self told Zul that we could probably do it in 2 hours, tops. Of course, i had no idea...

Waiting for van to be fixed. Something dodgy happened no less than 15 minutes we set off.

So there it was, an imposing piece of history. You can really only enjoy the views and how well the grounds are laid out from the top, climbing which, was fine by me. I just didn't anticipate the long walk to the foot of the rock.

...and here we go....

...kinda left Zul way back...

remaining positive at the midway plateau called the Lion's Paws, for obvious reasons

Zul had to be prodded up

made it!!

Kandy- Sri Lanka's second big city

We journeyed on to Kandy after that which was a further 2 hours up-hill. I quite like Kandy as compared to Colombo as the weather is much more pleasant, the landscape is much more amazing and the air seems fresh, though that remains arguable. We arrived in the afternoon when it wasnt scorching hot for a relaxing stroll in the city.

Our room in Kandy. Indra, the owner was a lovely host.

mosque in Kandy for me mama

Just for you girl!
